What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic treatment is a noninvasive approach to pain that treats the whole person and addresses the root of the problem, not just the symptoms. Chiropractors use highly skilled adjustments, as well as therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises.
Chiropractic is safe and effective. It can often help patients avoid surgery and decrease medication use. It can help people become active again and to participate in the activities they enjoy. Studies also suggest that chiropractic services are less costly than medical care.
Does Workers' Compensation cover Chiropractic?
Yes, in the state of Tennessee. Tennessee state law requires that an employee be given the opportunity to see a chiropractic physician if their injury is spinal related. Chiropractors are now on the physician panel for Workers' Compensation.
What should I Expect on my First Treatment?
On your first visit to Springfield Chiropractic Clinic, Dr. Wachter will take a comprehensive health history, and perform a physical examination. The examination will consist of orthopedic testing, strength and neurological tests, postural evaluation, range of motion tests, and palpation. If diagnostic studies are needed they will be taken or ordered. We request that patients bring any previous studies (X-ray, MRI, etc.) with you on your first visit. After the examination and diagnostic studies have been performed, Dr. Wachter will discuss his findings with the new patient and discuss the treatment plan to be implemented.
Is Chiropractic Treatment Appropriate for Children?
Yes, children can benefit from chiropractic care. Children are very physically active and experience many types of falls and blows from activities of daily living, as well as from participating in sports. Injuries such as these may cause many symptoms including back and neck pain, stiffness, soreness or discomfort. Chiropractic care is always adapted to the individual patient. It is a highly skilled treatment, and in the case of children, very gentle.
Is Chiropractic Safe?
Chiropractic is "remarkably safe" according to the New Zealand government inquiry. It has an excellent safety record because chiropractic adjustment avoids invasive procedures or addictive drugs. A thorough history and exam are utilized to determine the best course of care for the patient. Adjustments are gentle and effective. Adjustments do not hurt. The chiropractor will use as light of force as possible with the correct line of drive to remove the problem that is occurring.
Each chiropractic adjustment is tailored to the patient's age, size, and unique problem. Although chiropractic has an excellent safety record, no health treatment is completely free of potential adverse effects. The risks associated with chiropractic, however, are very small. Many patients feel immediate relief following chiropractic treatment, but some may sometimes experience mild soreness or aching, just as they do after some forms of exercise. Current literature shows that minor discomfort or soreness following spinal manipulation typically fades within 24 hours.
More on Chiropractic
Chiropractic is a branch of medicine that works with the spine and the nervous system that runs through it, to alleviate the pains of a "pinched nerve". The spinal cord is covered by 24 moveable vertebra. When these vertebra rotate out of place, they can pinch on the nerves that extend out into the muscles and organs. When a nerve is pinched, it will start firing excessively. This can be compared to holding your finger against the end of a garden hose. This will eventually cause the muscle or organ not to function properly. The chiropractor will use just the right amount of force in the right direction to unpinch the nerve.
ACA - Chiropractic: A Safe Treatment Option
Chiropractic is widely recognized as one of the safest drug-free, non-invasive therapies available for the treatment of back pain, neck pain, joint pain of the arms or legs, headaches, and other neuromusculoskeletal complaints.
In addition to being a safe form of treatment, spinal manipulation is incredibly effective, getting patients back on their feet faster than traditional medical care. A March 2004 study in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics found that chiropractic care is more effective than medical care at treating chronic low-back pain in those patients who have been experiencing the symptoms for one year or less. Another study published in the July 15, 2003, edition of the journal Spine found that manual manipulation provides better short-term relief of chronic spinal pain than a variety of medications.
